Th start of July came with a major lack of snow which gave more time to continue with improving fitness and a good chance to do some mountain biking. Snow arrived 7th July but not enough to start skiing. Finally first day on snow arrived and I was back up with the Treble Cone Race Academy on July 17th to start the season’s training. Awesome to be back! Had some excellent training up at SnowparkNZ plus a bit at Treble Cone but with school holidays the queues were a bit of a nightmare with record numbers. Final week of July was full on with lots of early starts on the hill and dryland/recovery sessions in the afternoons getting ready for the first races.
The Wanaka Tech Series at Cardrona and Treble Cone, 1st – 5th August was a good start to the New Zealand race season. With both races at Cardrona, I was in first place after the first run however mistakes on the flat, softer course cost time so I finished 3rd in the GS and 2nd in the slalom where I also managed to score points. The GS at Treble Cone went a lot better and I placed first with my best points so far, scoring 31.81. Unfortunately I struggled with the slalom and had a slow result. Looking forward to a couple of days rest before getting back to training and the next series of races to be held at Coronet Peak.
