The New Zealand ski season is once again at an end for me with all the southern fields now closed. My final achievement this season was to win the Overall NZ Alpine Champion 2012 title (combined results from slalom and giant slalom with the super G cancelled.) A positive way to finish the season.
After much thought, research, questions and soul searching I have made a change for the coming Northern Hemisphere season which is both exciting and a little daunting. It was with some sadness I farewell my training days with Guenther Birgmann and TCRA as it has been an amazing journey over the past three years and I have come a long way. For the coming Northern Hemisphere season I am taking up the opportunity of being able to train with other members of the New Zealand National Men’s Team plus members of the Australian National Ski Team starting in Panorama, Canada for a month then moving on to Austria where I will be based in Leogang for the rest of the season. This programme is provided by Ski & Snowboard Australia with Nils Coberger as coach.
In the meantime, it’s time to get my fitness – agility, strength and endurance to peak levels and to increase body weight with increased muscle mass until it’s time to start on snow again. Not all time has to be spent at the gym though.
